Carlos Cedano was born in the Dominican Republic and spent his childhood playing baseball until the Caribbean sun went down. He fell in love with television production at his first job, working with a television station in his hometown of Higüey. In 1996 he moved to the United States and made Miami his home. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Film, Television and Digital Production from Miami Dade College. While working toward his degree, he gained experience in television production by learning set construction and working behind the camera at Telefutura.

Carlos began working with Miami Dade College as an assistant to the Set Designer. He is currently the Stage, Set and Lighting Designer for Miami Dade College. While he learned English, he began working as a student assistant in the Arts and Philosophy Department at Miami Dade College. It was there that he learned many techniques about the stage, theater and performances. His passion for television slowly moved to the side as he began to discover the talent and diversity that is within the Miami theater community. During this time, Carlos also began to study lighting design for events. He discovered that through simple lighting changes, you could change the entire mood of a theater scene and capture the imagination of the audience.

It was this realization that design could have such a profound and immediate impact on an audience that moved Carlos to pursue marketing. He works closely with Miami Dade College’s Communications Department to helpwith various visual elements for the many events hosted by the College. He also works to create new designs for banners, stage decorations, posters and sets for tradeshows to promote the College. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Marketing at Florida International University and plans to put this firsthand knowledge of digital marketing, brand development, and marketing analytics to good use at Miami Dade College.

He targets current and future students of Miami Dade College as well as the College community as a whole. Working to help engage students with new programs via targeted emails and social media, Carlos helps to expand the global reach of the College outside of the South Florida environment. He has also designed and implemented on-site digital ads and sidewalk tattoos throughout campus, vying for the attention of students and guests.

Carlos feels passionately about increasing the brand awareness and community image of Miami Dade College because of his own experience as a student and employee. He truly embodies the College’s motto ‘opportunity changes everything,’ and wants to help as many students as possible realize their own opportunities in school and in life.

More than anything, Carlos loves being a ‘dance dad’ for his teenage daughter and exploring nature with his dogs. He is currently renovating his mid-century modern house. He still loves baseball – but these days he watches it more than he plays.
