Millions of teenagers use social networks today. The Internet makes it possible for us to connect with loved ones, and even strangers, from all over the world, at any time of day or night. Social media sites have become an important part in almost every teenager’s life. Blogging, online social platforms and other digital materials are a lifeline for most teenagers.
I speak from experience, watching my 15-year-old daughter constantly on her phone sharing everything from what she is eating to where she is going. I joke that her phone is just an extension of her hand. My daughter, as with other teenagers, shares personal information, gets in contact with new people and shares stories on a constant basis. Almost 55% of teens are likely to have at least one profile on the social network sites. As human beings, we maintain our existence by connecting and bonding through communication. We greatly value conversation, as it is not only a tool for transmitting information, but it is also used as a means of building families, friendships, and communities.
Obviously then, brands need to keep in mind that social media is paramount when marketing to teenagers. This demographic has the ability to leverage strong sales for your brand – you just have to know how to reach them.
